The matters of the heart

The matters of the heart and feeling are of the most importance. They are both unquantifiable and profound. They affect the way in which we perceive, live and act. Not being able to quantify a subjective experience does not mean that science cannot break it down into its elements or measure its occurrence, because we know science can. What unquantifiable really means is that no unit can be assigned to that experience to make it comparable to that of another.

Love can be magnificent or painful, but no one would know except the person who is experiencing it. For those who have not encountered love, It is as impossible as trying to taste an imaginary apple. However, to not experience love would be to not experience life, because there are many types of love that we often ignore. The love between a mother and a child. The love between siblings. The love between partners. The love between Mother Earth and Mankind. The love between soul and the Supreme Soul. All are examples of love but the difference is in intensity and permanence.

The intensity and permanence of love takes the highest importance in all of philosophy, religion and spirituality. The question religion poses is, "How can I break through this barrier of false loves, and achieve a state of everlasting love and happiness called bliss?". The answer religion gives is simple: to go to the source of Love within ourselves and merge into it. The source of love is known by many names such as God, Ram, Allah, Waheguru, Jehovah. However, going beyond the limitations of linguistics, it is in the end the same Supreme Universality. By realising this infinite ocean of love within us, the rivers of our finite emotions and knowledge merge into this greater Supreme Universality and no longer do our emotions run wild.

The individual consciousness merges with the universal consciousness, and in this union of mind and matter, the subject's true identity of the soul is merged with the infinite identity of the Supreme Soul. The subject then gains an awareness of the effects of their actions on other people and themselves. It is in this awareness that they are able to avoid the negative consequences of their actions which bring pain and suffering. So long as this connection to the Source of Love remains, the subject shall remain intuitive, blissful and heart-centred.
