Quantum Physics and Consciousness by Deepak Chopra

In the video below, Deepak Chopra reveals some of what Quantum Physics scientists are now discovering about the nature of consciousness. The traditional view is that the essential building block of the Universe is matter, however, another theory which is gaining popularity is that the essential building block of the Universe may well be consciousness. If this is true, it could change our entire understanding about the nature of life and existence. Enjoy the video...

An Introduction to Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga, the yoga of awareness, is a tool to achieve self mastery and happiness of total self. It works on all aspects of the body, mind and spirit through, pranayama (breath), mantras (chants), asana (body positioning), mudra (hand positioning), bhanda (body locks) and relaxation to provide a more healthy, happy and holy way of life for each person who practices it.

Kundalini Yoga is one of the oldest forms of human development, being at least 6000 years old. Some believe it dates back as many as 70,000 years. Kundalini yoga produces results 16 times faster than ordinary yoga and is the original and most powerful of the twenty two schools of yoga, all of which are beneficial. The Yoga Sutras say that what you can achieve in 12 years of Hatha Yoga, plus 6 years of Raj Yoga, plus 3 years of Mantra Yoga, plus 1 year of Laya Yoga can be accomplished in a single year of perfectly practised Kundalini Yoga. It is therefore known as the fastest form of Yoga practise and personal development.

The word "Kundalini" means awareness and hidden potential of that awareness; it is the greatness of what we are capable. "Yoga" means relationship, unity, the merging of the individual creative consciousness with the infinite Creative Consciousness. By practicing this form of yoga an awareness and conscious relationship with our spiritual origin is developed. It is not a religion but rather the science of all religions. The spiritual impulse and identity is basic to human nature, but for many people in this society it has been lost. Practicing Kundalini yoga brings us back in touch with our three folded nature: body, mind and spirit.

Kundalini Yoga incorporates gentle stretching as well as energetic aerobic workout with breath coordination. All yoga sets are designed to work on specific body systems, such as the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, endocrine or reproductive system. It provides happiness by balancing the glandular system, strengthening the nervous system, and enabling us to tap into the energy of the mind and the emotions, so we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled by our thoughts and feelings. Kundalini Yoga promotes better functioning of our bodily systems, increases our radiance and the impact we have on others, promotes emotional balance and enhances intuition, helps to eliminate negative habit patterns, and promotes a sense of relaxation, well being and centeredness as well as reducing stress effectively. The benefits therefore impact all aspects of our physical, mental and spiritual being.
"The process of self-healing is the privilege of every human being. Self-healing is not a miracle, nor is it a question of being able to do something that most people can’t. Self-healing is a process that occurs through the relationship between the physical and the infinite power of the soul. It is a contract, a union - that is the science of Kundalini Yoga." - Yogi Bhajan - Master of Kundalini Yoga
Immediately after class most students feel a sense of general well being and relaxation, or a feeling of inner peace and joy. Many students also report mental clarity and an increase in energy levels the day or days following class.

Summer Solstice, Solstice Summer

Summer Solstice,
Solstice Summer,
Are you ready for bliss?
Do you need a plumber?

For unblocking your soul,
Life must flow,
Fulfil this life's goal,
Which way will the wind blow?

Towards New Mexico,
Espanola,
Don't say no,
Come eat some granola!

Book your flight,
To ABQ,
Bliss is in sight,
Skies are turning blue!

Help you find You,
Don't worry about money,
Help your life brew,
Into golden milk and honey!

Ram Das Puri awaits,
Patience is a virtue,
Nurture your inner traits,
Come relax and renew!

There'll be lots of jokes,
There'll be lots of laughing,
There'll be lots of folks,
There'll be lots of chanting!

So, be honest, do you need a plumber?
Are you ready for bliss?
This Solstice Summer,
Come Summer Solstice!

God moves to our individual idiosyncrasy

God. The humblest of all beings. God is so humble that He becomes whatever you think He is. If you think He is nature, He becomes nature. If you think He is a stone idol, He becomes a stone idol. If you think He is a woman, He becomes a woman. If you think He is a man, He becomes a man. He resides in every particle of existence, and yet He is nowhere to be seen. Everyone calls Him by various names, and yet He has no name. He has left his presence everywhere so that we may find Him whenever we want, but He does not force us to worship or remember Him. If we wish to play in the park of the Universe, He will let us play. When we want to return back to Him, He will show us the way. He is such a Being who will never leave us, not in life nor death. He remains by our side, in both pain and pleasure. God moves to our individual idiosyncrasy. Such is His Infinite humility, such is His Infinite kindness and such is His Infinite compassion. What more can be said of this Being, for He is everything and nothing at the same time?

Religion and Science - Why and How!

I recently attended a talk about Faith and Post-Darwinism and with the anniversary of Charles Darwin I thought it would make an interesting article.

A lot of people suggest that religion is completely based on faith, which makes it completely incompatible with science because science is based on empirical, provable facts. Although it could be argued that even science needs an element of 'faith' this doesn't hold up very well because a scientific 'faith' is a reasoned point of view that is continually empirically tested. Religious faith is different in that it is unconditional devotion.

Yes, science explains the world around us and yes, religion gives us an element of virtues and morality and yes, both are ways of explaining Truth. That's all well and good but can religion and science truly fit together?

From a non-theistic perspective, the argument that religion is a source of morality/ethics can be more or less equated to 'religion is useless' because one can for example draw on virtue, utilitarian or Kantian ethics for morality. So what's left? Nothing?

From a more theistic perspective, true religion is a way of life. It governs ultimately our behaviour, in an open and non controlling way. The aim of which is to ultimately unite with the Divine (that's probably more of a Sikh take on religion, but I see it as the essence of all religions). OK, so that all sounds very nice and cosy, but what's the divine and what does it mean to unite? Isn't it all just 'faith'?

Science helps answer the why questions. Religion (or more accurately Dharma, way of life) helps answer the how questions. The essence of true religion is spirituality. It is only in the recent few centuries that the why questions have played a more important role in our western societies than the how. The reasons for this are huge but one influence certainly seems to be gradual loss in experiential Dharma. Over the last few hundred years the role of Dharma in our everyday lives has reduced. It has become an idealist theory that people think about. We don't live it, but simply think it. We now and again pop into the religious places of worship and if we're open enough, feel inspired and uplifted. But our habitual day-to-day activities take over soon after. They take over because we have no daily spiritual practice.

With the loss of this we have lost the knowledge of what it means to live Dharma. Obsession with power, control and the ego take the reigns and has now lead organised religion to be thought of as narrow minded, political and external. The paradox is that religion is about returning to the origin, to our origin, our higher conscious, the divine. We are God but we have forgotten that.

The thing is we don't like to simply go back to the experience because now, it has to make 'sense'. It has to fulfil our 'why' questions to stand a chance of changing our behaviour. Its a funny paradox because in an age where we ask why to everything which might challenge our habitual behaviour, we are happy to drink away the problems, get absolutely drunk and act in completely irrational and emotional ways in name of 'fun'. Fortunately, science explains our world, and spirituality is part of that world. So beginning with the questions of why, will eventually end up in the 'how'. Although not fully there yet, the boundaries of science, philosophy and spirituality are gradually merging. I genuinely strive to understand scientifically how these spiritual things work and this knowledge simply adds to my fascination with the 'how'. When you experience you know it works. The why just makes it easier to explain to others and yourself.

Its easy to think science provides us with progress and is more important than how to live a religious/spiritual/dharmic life. Don't get me wrong, its amazing! Its allowed us to as humans shape the world we live in and have all these cool things like the Wii!! But we have to remember to make progress in internally understanding ourselves, within our selves.

We are living in a very fortunate time. We are able to ask why and get empirically proven answers. But until we integrate our spiritual practice into our lives we'll simply not progress spiritually and spiritual progression is part of being a human. Of course that's until we hit our next evolutionary jump as humans and become far more aware of our spiritual selves!

Lets not be afraid of change. We should embrace it. Expand the thirst to understand our environment to our own souls and use religion and science together to progress in a balanced way.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin

Everyday is a miracle

Everyday is a miracle,
Even if you don't realise,
It's a privilege to be alive,
Even if you don't contemplate.

Everyday is a miracle,
Vegetables growing from Earth,
Birds chirping in the sky,
Trees standing tall and strong.

Everyday is a miracle,
Sun lights up everything,
Rain cools everyone down,
The weather is dancing.

Everyday is a miracle,
People have so much energy,
Everyone rushing and doing,
Trying to progress through life.

Everyday is a miracle,
The day is for working,
The night is for relaxing,
The flux is so perfect.

Everyday is a miracle,
Lush colours light up everything,
But to think we're just a speck,
In the universe so infinite.

Everyday is a miracle,
Every moment is so precious,
Tomorrow anything could happen,
Why not live for today?

Everyday is a miracle,
Even if you don't realise,
It's a privilege to be alive,
Even if you don't contemplate.

Techniques to Experience God Quickly!

So you're looking for God? In fact, you want to see God as fast as possible because your love to see the Beloved Lord is overflowing? Well, you came to the right place! Below are my quick tips to experience God right now!
  • Meditate on the mantra "Waheguru" in three parts "Wah", "Hey" and "Guru", with your focus at the Third Eye point between the eyebrows at the root of the nose. After 11 minutes you'll be done! Sit in silence and feel the vibration of the meditation. That's God!
  • Close your eyes, now begin to imagine yourself slowly expanding to become the universe. You are the universe and the universe is you! Feel every cell of your body begin to merge into the entire universe. Now feel that you are merely a speck in the universe so infinite. Just a speck in the entire vastness of the universe! Stay in this feeling, then slowly return to the present moment. Smile. That's God!
  • Look into the eyes of a human being or animal near you. Look at the vast Godly potential in that human being. The kindness, the sincerity, the eagerness to understand what they are. Now consider that the person you are looking at is actually you. There is no difference between you and them, you are them! Be in this feeling for a moment. That's God!
Ok so maybe some of you are looking for more longer-term solutions. Well below is the creme-de-la-creme of all spiritual and personal development technologies that I have come across:
I think this should keep you all busy for a few lifetimes ;)...

Quantum Physics and the Double Slit Experiment

Below is a classic video on the strange world of Quantum Physics - which is the science of atomic and sub-atomic particles and how these particles are act, react and interact under particular conditions. The double slit experiment opens a whole new realm of possibility about the nature of life and existence, which mainstream "Einstein" science is only beginning to accept. So here goes the infamous double-slit experiment:

Perspective gives you sight

Perspective gives you sight. Lack of perspective keeps you blind. Perspective is almost like creating a line. Another perspective comes and creates another line across the first one in a new direction. This process continues until there is a circle of perspective that gives a person a 360 degree view about life and existence. This is known as infinity or Third Eye, the inner eye of complete perspective. A human being then, through an increased perspective and clarity of perception gets a new dimension to life. The linear circle of perspective becomes a sphere.

Understand, that perspective leads to a new dimension to life, the linear becomes non-linear, the circle becomes a sphere! This is profound! Perspective will bring you to a new way of thinking, but once perspective creates a new dimension, this new dimension will bring you to a new way of seeing, a new way of being and a new way of perceiving infinity. So, what does this really mean in day-to-day life?

This means that a person begins to see all of life in a new Universal light. That everyone is just a human being, there is no such thing as a Sikh or a Muslim or a Hindu or a Jew or a Jain or a Buddhist. Everyone is just a human being. Also, a person begins to see that no one is better or worse than anyone else, no one is higher or lower, everyone just are as they are, and they are perfect as they are. Everyone! Every single person! Whether a person is a murderer or a prostitute, or whether a person is a Saint or a Queen, or an enemy or a friend. Everyone is perfect as they are, because that is how God made them. This is a Universal perspective which encompasses the entire of humanity and frees a person from the traps of the ego which attempts to separate, segregate and divide everyone.

So I would invite you the reader that today may you become open to a new perspective of life, allow a new way of thinking to enter into your being and expand you. Usually it is the perspective that you have the most "problem" with which you need to learn to accept. Don't live in fear or be in your head that "If I accept this, then so and so will happen". Let it be. Just absorb a new perspective through acceptance, and slowly you will begin to see a new dimension unfold to your life.

Using Love as a Gateway to Higher Consciousness

In this video Living Enlightened Master Paramahamsa Nithyananda talks about the difference between lust and love, the difference between something that is unique and something which is just an object. Paramahamsa uses many stories to explain the concept of love which I found very enlightening:

Peace by Piece

We must create peace,
Peace by piece,
Every part by part,
Every heart by heart.

Let us make a start,
Let peace be the art,
Of creating peace within,
Let us now begin.

Time for war is over,
Time for peace is here,
Of hate let's stand clear,
Let compassion be our spear.

Everything will add up,
Like water filling a cup,
If we change ourselves,
Things will change themselves.

Creating a paradigm shift,
With hope as our catalyst,
Humanity will unite,
Under one banner of light.

Just like the coloured rainbow,
Understands and knows,
It emerges from one light,
One source, one might.

We must unite in humanity,
Leaving behind our insanity,
This vision is not vanity,
It can be our chosen reality.

Your participation is requested,
Your participation is required,
Fill the heart with compassion,
Peace will become a passion.

Let us make a start,
Let peace be the art,
Of creating peace within,
Let us now begin.

We must create peace,
Peace by piece,
Every part by part,
Every heart by heart.

You are what you think

We always hear the phrase, "You are what you eat", and of course this is increasingly becoming apparent with a number of conditions now associated with not eating healthy, nourishing and rich food. However, what do you think about the quote:

Getting to somewhere

Often we can get obsessed in life about getting to somewhere, whether it is that we want to be more spiritual, have more money or have more happiness in our life. Of course having goals is important, but what is also important is the journey we make to get towards our goal.

To be present in this moment, to be alive in this moment, to be gracious in this moment. We may not be alive tomorrow, but we are alive in this moment. One of the results of doing meditation, prayer and yoga is to stop the mind jumping between the past and the future and to live in the present.

But, you can have that feeling now, by just being in the present! Wow! Isn't it amazing to be alive? To live right now, right here? If you don't think so, it's perhaps because you're still trying to calculate the present. There's nothing to calculate! Just be! Also, there are varying degrees of being present which you may be interested to explore. Anyhow, let's end with a fitting quote by Ursula LeQuin and Buddha Avtaar:
"It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end" - Ursula LeQuin
"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly." - Buddha Avtaar

Bhakti Yoga by Yogiraj Siddhanath Gurunath

The Sikh way of life is about complete devotion to God and the Sikh Holy Scripture, the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is a living master in the form of sound or Word, which makes the head bow to the heart. Every line or sutra of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji fulfills the yearing of a human being for love, the words of the Guru go right into the heart and remain there forever. Therefore, a person who is serious about progressing on their spiritual path should read the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in order to understand devotion at its best, all 1430 pages of it.

In the following video, Yogiraj Siddhanath Gurunath, who is an Enlightened Master, explains the concept of Devotion or Bhakti through a beautiful poem in the language of Marathi:

The Light Of My Life

The light of my life is the Guru,
The Guru is the light of my life,
The Shabad is the light of my soul,
The light of my soul is the Shabad.

Without You, Oh True Guru,
Where would I be?
Oh True Guru, Without You,
How could I see?

When I didn't even know it,
You guided my life,
You guided my life,
When I didn't even know it.

What can I possibly give to You,
Give to the Great Giver?
To You what can I possibly give,
Than my mind, body and soul.

How can words express my love,
My love for the Guru,
My love for the Guru,
How can words express my love.

The Shabad is the light of my soul,
The light of my soul is the Shabad,
The Guru is the light of my life,
The light of my life is the Guru.
